Core Group of Culture Kick Project

Ongoing activities

The knowledge transfer supports mutual beneficial collaborations between academia, heritage practices and the creative industries with special focus on three emerging knowledge fields: ICT technologies for cultural heritage, interaction design, and museum studies. The ongoing activities focus on building sustainable structures for knowledge exchange and transfer by using a participatory approach based on existing Nordic research projects that triangulate the creative industry, CH institutions and research.

KNOW-HOW BOOKS

During the NODEM 2013 conference it was decided to move forward with the development of a model for researcher presentation towards museums and creative industries, based on the Know How Books concept. The aim of the project is to introduce researchers and their innovations to museum professionals and to facilitate knowledge transfer between these parties. Our partner for this project have been The Stockholm City Museum, with Hans Öjmyr as a coordinator. We have collected evaluation feedback from our partners, and revised the book accordingly.

We hope to work with the National Museum of Science and Technology on the production of a model for long-term collaboration between researchers and museums.

Know-How Book: Research Supporting Innovation
Senior Researcher: Halina Gottlieb

The Research Supporting Innovation know-how book is a summary of projects from many years of research, studies and experiments. Besides summarizing research and work done by the author, it also lists many of the methods and experiences concerning digital media and learning that the author has encountered at museums throughout the last decade.

Know-how Book: Fly High! Collaborate
Design Researcher: Mariana Salgado

We have collaborated with design researcher Mariana Salgado from Aalto University to create a know-how book that will enable the transfer of research results from three case studies to professionals from museums and the creative industry. Mariana Salgado’s research deals with cultural heritage materials and design, and she has been involved in co-designing participation in museums through the use of interactive pieces.

Hans Öjmyr, from Stockholm City Museum, evaluated the book and offered his comments and suggestions from his perspective as a museum professional. The book has undergone revisions in terms of structure and content and is currently in its fourth draft. Based on three case studies, this booklet will offer recommendations on engaging the museum community in technically mediated exhibitions.

The know-how books will be available online http://repo.nodem.org/ and in a printed version. The following know-how booklets are a few examples of knowledge transfer activities developed by the Interactive Institute Swedish ICT and the Digital Heritage Center Sweden, with the support of the European Commission under the Community’s Sixth Framework Programme.

DIGITAL REPOSITORY: PHASE III
We are planning to develop the NODEM Digital Repository to facilitate collaborative knowledge preservation. The repository is implemented as an application and we are planning to improve its functionality.

WEBSITE INTERFACE DESIGN: PHASE III
We intend to revamp the NODEM website interface regarding graphic design and interactivity. The main objective is to make the website responsive and simpler.

CULTURE KICK AT NODEM 2014
The NODEM 2014 Conference “Engaging Spaces – Interpretation, Design and Digital Strategies” explores the challenge of crossing boundaries and creating links between experience design, architecture, ICT, digital strategies and interpretative content to explore critical aspects of visitor engagement.

The NODEM 2014 Conference will provide a venue for creating opportunities for innovative knowledge exchange and networking activities involving representatives from R&D, SMEs and cultural heritage organizations.

Culture KICK members will be invited to the NODEM 2014 Conference in the context of the Culture KICK knowledge transfer program. Visit the NODEM 2014 section for updates.

Culture KICK at the Seminar “Methods of Knowledge Transfer towards Innovation – Design, Culture, Welfare and Entrepreneurship”, the 6th European Innovation Summit, Brussels, 17 November, 2014

The seminar agenda will focus on concrete examples of successful methods and study cases shared by participants of the Nordci and Sino-Nordic groups of networks and other invited guests. The aim is to improve interactions at both a micro and macro level between research, education and business area, and help and inspire stakeholders in the innovation process by providing them with access to knowledge generated in the fields of design, culture, welfare and entrepreneurship.

Our future prospect is to find opportunities to sustainably extend the Nordic networks and initiate collaborations with other European organizations and worldwide foundations to further develop platforms for easy knowledge transfer and long-term reciprocal action between the three knowledge-drivers in key areas – education, research and industry.
